Elevate your tea ritual with the Jinsui Tokoname Tea Cups in Ivory, beautifully handcrafted in Japan using the celebrated traditions of Tokoname-yaki, one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns. Featuring a refined matte black finish and timeless silhouette, these elegant tea cups embody the Japanese philosophy of simplicity, balance and mindful living, making every cup of tea a moment to savour.
Expertly crafted from Tokoname clay, the cups are designed to enhance the enjoyment of Japanese green teas, allowing the tea's colour, aroma and flavour to be appreciated while offering a comfortable, natural feel in the hand. Their understated design complements both traditional and contemporary table settings, making them ideal for everyday tea rituals or special occasions.
Each set of two cups is presented in an elegant gift box, carefully packaged to protect the handcrafted ceramics while reflecting the quality and artistry of Japanese craftsmanship. Beautifully presented, they make a thoughtful gift for tea lovers and admirers of authentic Japanese design.
Produced by Jinsui, a respected Tokoname pottery workshop, these tea cups are crafted using generations of ceramic expertise, preserving the rich heritage of one of Japan's most renowned pottery regions while embracing refined contemporary aesthetics.
The black colour is lightly baked and is porous. These microscopic holes are said to absorb any bitterness or extraneous flavours in the tea giving it a cleaner taste. The gray colour is hardened and less porous, therefore the resulting flavour of the tea will be closer to it’s original taste and profile (not curently in stock). The ivory version of the teapot is somewhere in the middle and will offer a balanced flavour.
All clays (and colours) include naturally occurring iron which changes water at a molecular level and is said to sweeten or mellow it’s flavour. This can contribute to a better flavour of tea overall, and is why Japanese tea is often prepared by boiling water in an iron “Testsubin” kettle.
Care Instructions
Hand washing is recommended to preserve the finish and longevity of the ceramic. Wash with warm water and a mild detergent, avoiding abrasive cleaners or scouring pads. Allow the cups to dry thoroughly before storing. Avoid sudden or extreme temperature changes, as these may damage the ceramic.
About Jinsui
The name "Jinsui" combines the characters for “person” (人, jin) and “water” (水, sui), reflecting the idea that just as people need water to live, civilizations have always flourished where water is abundant. When the previous generation began producing teapots (kyusu), they embraced this philosophy and chose the name Jinsui to honor the essential relationship between humans and water.
