Runs in the open
Our Town never takes your money — checkout always happens on each maker’s own store. What we do is walk shoppers to those checkouts, and we think the makers (and you) should see exactly how often that happens. So we publish it. These numbers count hand-offs: the moment we open a maker’s checkout with a basket, valued at that moment. They are not confirmed sales — a shopper can always change their mind on the maker’s side.

The small print, in the open too: we count a hand-off server-side when a checkout link is followed, we filter out crawlers and scripts as best we can, and figures refresh about once an hour. Hand-offs before 29 July 2026 were imported from our own page analytics — counted in the browser rather than on our server, so treat that first month as a slight undercount. Basket value is the basket at the moment of hand-off, in rand — not a claim about any maker’s revenue. Makers: this ledger is yours to check us against — if you’d like your numbers explained, ask.
