Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate (Mild Anionic Surfactant) - Essentially Natural

Essentially Natural Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate (Perlastan L 30) is a mild anionic surfactant supplied as an aqueous
solution for easy formulating. It is commonly used to boost foam, improve cleansing performance, and reduce the harsh
feel that can come from stronger surfactants. This ingredient is popular in shampoos, facial cleansers, shower gels,
shaving gels, and even certain household cleaner concepts. It performs well across a broad range of formulas and is
often used as a secondary surfactant to improve overall mildness and lather quality.

What It’s Used For

This product is commonly used to:

Boost lather and foam stability in cleansing formulations

Improve mildness when paired with other surfactants

Support cleansing performance in shampoos and body washes

Improve wetting and detergency in rinse-off products

Help maintain a soft, conditioned feel after rinsing

Who It’s For

This product is suitable for:

Formulators creating mild foaming cleansers for skin and hair

Surfactant blends that need better foam and improved after-feel

Shaving gels and facial cleansers where gentle cleansing is a priority

This product is not:

A finished cleanser, it is a formulation ingredient

For internal use

Ideal for very low pH systems without compatibility testing

How To Use

As a Secondary Surfactant: Use at 1% to 5% to boost foam and improve mildness in a blended surfactant system.

As a Primary Cleanser Component: Use at higher levels within a balanced surfactant blend and adjust final pH to suit
the product type.

As a Thickened Cleanser: Thicken with salt where appropriate, or adjust toward pH 5 with a citric acid solution
while monitoring viscosity.

Processing Tip: For best stability in many systems, keep final formula pH above 6 unless you have tested performance
at lower pH.

Safety Instructions

For external formulation use only

Avoid contact with eyes, rinse thoroughly if contact occurs

Do not ingest

Wear gloves when handling raw surfactants and wash off splashes promptly

Keep out of reach of children and pets

Store tightly sealed in a cool, dry place away from heat and direct light

FAQs

Q: Is this the same as sodium lauryl sulfate?
A: No, sodium lauroyl sarcosinate is a different surfactant and is generally used for milder cleansing concepts.

Q: Can it be thickened?
A: Yes, many formulas can be thickened with salt, and viscosity can also shift with pH adjustment depending on the
full surfactant system.

Q: Why can some acids make it look cloudy?
A: Some acidic systems can affect clarity in protein-like surfactant structures, so compatibility testing is
recommended when formulating with stronger exfoliating acids.
