What our OT says:

Our wooden balance board is a must for every playroom. As you know I am always looking for equipment that has more than one purpose and can be used for more than one developmental stage. These boards are versatile and has  so many educational benefits. Here are some:

Sensory Integration:

• • Wooden balance boards stimulate multiple sensory systems, including the vestibular, proprioceptive, and tactile systems.
  • The vestibular system is responsible for balance and spatial orientation. When a child rocks or balances on the board, it activates this system.
  • Proprioception refers to the subconscious ability to sense body position and joint movement. Using the balance board helps develop proprioceptive awareness.
  • The tactile system is engaged as the child’s feet touch the wooden surface, providing sensory input.

Motor Development:

• • Balance boards encourage physical activity and movement. As children shift their weight, they engage core muscles, leg muscles, and improve overall balance.
  • Regular use of a balance board can enhance posture, coordination, and core body strength.
  • It’s an enjoyable way to build strength and confidence while having fun.

Attention and Focus:

• • Studies have shown that activities involving balance and movement can positively impact attention span and focus in children.
  • The challenge of staying balanced on the board requires concentration, which can benefit children with attention difficulties.

Imagination and Creativity:

• • The undefined curved shape of wooden balance boards sparks creativity and imagination.
  • Children can transform the board into various play scenarios: a bridge, a slide, a road, or even a boat!
  • Imaginative play is essential for cognitive development.

Safe and Eco-Friendly:

• • Wooden balance boards are typically made from sustainable materials like beechwood.
  • They are sturdy, durable, and safe for children to use.
  • Unlike plastic or metal boards, wooden ones have a natural feel and warmth.

Versatility:

• • Balance boards can be used by children of different ages, from infants (with supervision) to adults.
  • They’re suitable for home, schools, therapy centers, and play areas.
