Handcrafted in Yame, Fukuoka, the Torchin Circle by Shiraki Kougei reimagines the traditional Japanese chōchin lantern as a beautifully contemporary portable light. Shiraki Kougei specialises in Yame lantern-making, preserving techniques developed over generations while adapting this celebrated craft for modern Japanese living.

The softly rounded shade is made from delicate handmade Yame washi, supported by a beautifully finished beechwood base. When illuminated, the washi diffuses a warm, gentle 2700K glow, creating an intimate atmosphere for a dining table, bedside, reading corner or quiet evening space. 

Cordless and rechargeable, the Torchin combines traditional craftsmanship with thoughtful modern technology. A touch sensor offers three levels of brightness, while the rechargeable battery provides approximately 4–6 hours of light, depending on the setting. Its lightweight form makes it easy to carry from room to room. 

The name "Torchin" playfully brings together the idea of a portable torch with the Japanese chōchin lantern - an elegant expression of Shiraki Kougei’s philosophy of carrying traditional craft into contemporary life.
