A pram or car seat ride can be one of the trickiest stretches of a day to fill, baby's awake, curious, and looking for something to focus on, with hands not quite free to explore the world around them. The Little Dutch Safari Friends Soft Activity Chain was made for exactly that moment: four soft plush companions, an elephant, a lion, a crocodile, and a flamingo, strung together and ready to dangle, sway, and be discovered wherever the day takes you.

Each little character has its own soft, huggable shape, giving baby plenty to reach for, bat at, and grasp as they travel. The chain attaches securely to a pram, stroller, car seat, or cot using its practical loops, so it stays within easy reach rather than ending up dropped and forgotten. It's a simple idea, but a thoughtful one turning ordinary outings into small pockets of sensory play.

Made from soft, gentle materials in Little Dutch's warm, natural safari tones, this chain is as considered in its finish as it is in its purpose. It's a lovely addition to a newborn's pram setup, a thoughtful baby shower gift, and exactly the kind of quietly developmental, screen-free toy we love including in an OT-curated store.

What the OT Says:

As an occupational therapist, I love recommending toys like this activity chain because they take a moment that could otherwise be entirely passive for baby, sitting in a pram or car seat and turn it into an opportunity for active sensory and motor engagement, without needing anyone to sit and "play" alongside them.

The four soft animals each offer baby something slightly different to focus on, which supports early visual attention and tracking. As the chain moves gently with the pram or car, baby's eyes are encouraged to follow, shift focus, and re-engage small, repeated visual work that lays the groundwork for more complex visual processing later on.

Reaching toward the animals, batting at them, and eventually grasping and holding them supports the very early stages of hand-eye coordination and reach-and-grasp development. Because the pieces are soft and forgiving, there's no pressure for baby to "succeed" every attempt, whether it lands on target or not, is useful sensorimotor practice. The varied plush textures across the four animals also offer a gentle introduction to tactile exploration, supporting early sensory processing in a low-key, self-directed way.

I especially like that this chain gives baby a degree of independent engagement during outings something to look at, reach for, or simply enjoy at their own pace, rather than relying entirely on being entertained. I'd happily recommend this as an easy addition to any pram or car seat at home, or as a simple, versatile sensory tool for paediatric OT use on the go.
