A celebration of craftsmanship and quiet beauty, the Ikazaki Gilding Washi Postcards bring together centuries-old papermaking tradition with the delicate artistry of gold and silver leaf. Handcrafted in Ikazaki, a region of Ehime Prefecture renowned for its washi heritage, each postcard is a small work of art—textural, luminous, and deeply tactile.
Made from high-quality washi fibres, the postcards feature refined gilded details applied by local artisans who carry on a fading but treasured craft. The result is a postcard that feels simultaneously traditional and contemporary: soft in the hand but visually striking, understated yet luxurious.
Each card begins its life in clear mountain water, where locally sourced kozo (mulberry bark) fibres are transformed into washi using centuries-old techniques. Artisans then apply fine gilding by hand, creating shimmering patterns that catch the light without overwhelming the natural softness of the paper. The result is a postcard that feels both modern and deeply rooted in Japanese tradition - perfect for correspondence, décor, or gifting.
Perfect for meaningful gifting, correspondence, framing, or scrapbooking, these postcards elevate even the simplest message into something worth keeping.
