Pretoria to the Mother City

The best SA streetwear buys right now, from GALXBOY tees to Sealand slings

GALXBOY's OG 2.0 T-shirt is the one most people should buy: a near-perfect rating from hundreds of shoppers and one of the cheaper tees in the Pretoria label's range. S.P.C.C has the budget tee and the sneaker worth saving for, and Sealand covers the bag.

17 October 2026

Local streetwear has settled into three distinct things. GALXBOY out of Pretoria sells graphic cotton tees and a handful of accessories. S.P.C.C from Cape Town does the fuller wardrobe, denim and sliders and sneakers and golfers. Sealand works with upcycled and recycled material and is really a bag brand that also makes clothes.

That shapes how you should shop. The GALXBOY listings carry hundreds of ratings each, which tells you something. Most of the Sealand apparel listings carry one or two, which tells you less. S.P.C.C sits in between, with the sliders and sneakers gathering decent numbers.

Prices across this shelf run from the cost of a takeaway for a plain S.P.C.C tee up to a Sealand backpack that costs more than everything else here put together. Below, one pick to start with and four more for different jobs.

Our pick

OG 2.0 T-SHIRT

GALXBOY

OG 2.0 T-SHIRT

5.0 (452)

For anyone buying their first piece of local streetwear, this is the safest entry: a logo tee with a flawless rating from a very large crowd, at the lower end of GALXBOY's pricing.

R 450,00See it

Four hundred and fifty-odd shoppers have rated the OG 2.0 and not one of them dragged the average below a straight five. Across this whole list, no other product combines that many ratings with that score. On a shelf where many listings have a single rating, that matters more than any description.

The listing keeps it simple: lightweight premium cotton, a slightly loose fit, the 2012 beanie logo. No material percentages, no weight, no fit measurements, so you are going on the brand's word for the cotton quality. But it sits at the cheaper end of the GALXBOY tee range while several near-identical tees in the same line cost more for a different print.

If you want the archive GALXBOY look without paying for the louder graphics, start here.

The catch. The listing is thin on specifics, and "slightly loose fit" is the only sizing guidance you get.

Runner-up

PLAIN T-SHIRT

GALXBOY

PLAIN T-SHIRT

4.9 (453)

The same brand in a quieter, heavier form, for someone who wants the cotton more than the graphic.

R 350,00See it

This is GALXBOY's cheapest tee and the only one in the range whose listing claims heavyweight cotton rather than lightweight. Oversized fit, small beanie logo, nothing else going on. If you plan to layer it or wear it to death, heavier cloth is usually the better buy.

It carries over four hundred and fifty ratings at 4.9, so the crowd behind it is as big as the top pick's. The reason it is the runner-up and not the pick is simply the marginally lower score and the fact that a plain tee at this price competes with plain tees everywhere.

The catch. A plain logo tee is a harder sell at GALXBOY money than a graphic one.

Budget pick

Diego Tee - White

S.P.C.C Official Store

Diego Tee - White

4.9 (27)

The cheapest thing on this shelf by a distance, and a reasonable white cotton tee if you just want the local label without the spend.

R 199,00R 299,00See it

S.P.C.C lists it as 100 percent cotton single jersey with a garment wash, regular fit, front print. That is more material detail than most of the tees here give you, and the price is roughly half the top pick's.

Twenty-seven shoppers have rated it 4.9. Not a huge sample, but the direction is clear.

The catch. It is a third below its usual price at the moment, which is nice but will not last, and a regular-fit white tee shows wear faster than a dark one.

Also great

Zeplin Crossbody - ECONYL®

Sealandgear.co.za

Zeplin Crossbody - ECONYL®

4.9 (101)

Best for the shopper who already has the tees and wants one good everyday sling bag with a real recycled-material story behind it.

R 777,00See it

Sealand makes this Zeplin from ECONYL regenerated nylon, which the listing explains is nylon waste put through a regeneration process. The bag itself is a portrait sling with a front zip compartment, a back pocket and a main compartment with an inner pocket.

It has just over a hundred ratings at 4.9, far and away the strongest crowd behind any Sealand product here. The same Zeplin shape comes in recycled canvas at the same price and in yacht sail at roughly double, but those have two or three ratings between them. Unless you specifically want the one-off sail fabric, the ECONYL version is the better buy on evidence alone.

Priced in the middle of this shelf, which for a bag rather than a tee is fair.

The catch. The Moon belt bag from the same brand does a similar job for less, if you do not need the portrait sling shape.

Surge Lo Sneakers - Black

S.P.C.C Official Store

Surge Lo Sneakers - Black

5.0 (65)

For someone who wants a black canvas sneaker to finish the look and will wear it hard.

R 999,00See it

Duck canvas upper, rubber outsole and toe cap, internal cushioning, removable insole, padding throughout, two sets of laces in the box. The spec sheet here is the most detailed of any footwear on this shelf, and that is worth something when you cannot try the shoe on.

Sixty-five shoppers rate it a straight five. It costs about double the top pick, which is what you expect to pay for a sneaker rather than a tee. The high-top version of the same shoe is currently a third off and so lands cheaper than the low, so check both before you decide.

Compared with the S.P.C.C sliders, which are all much the same PVC strap and moulded sole at various prices, this is where the brand's footwear money is better spent.

The catch. S.P.C.C flags sizing as something to pay attention to on the high-top listing, so take the brand's sizing notes seriously here too.

What to look for

Look at how many people have rated a thing, not only the score. A five out of five from one or two shoppers tells you almost nothing. A 4.9 from several hundred tells you the fit and the printing hold up across a lot of bodies and a lot of washes. On this shelf that split falls hard along brand lines.

Read the material line. The strongest listings here name the cloth: organic cotton, duck canvas, comfort stretch denim, recycled nylon. The weaker ones say premium and lightweight and leave it there. Heavyweight cotton usually holds its shape longer than lightweight, so if a tee tells you which it is, that is useful information rather than marketing.

Fit language is the other thing worth decoding. Oversized, slightly loose, regular, boxy and slimline all mean real differences in how a piece sits, and most of these brands give you nothing beyond the word. Where a seller does flag sizing, as S.P.C.C does on the sneakers and GALXBOY does on the sandal, take it at face value and order accordingly.

Discounts should break a tie, never make the decision. A slider at a third off is still a slider. Ask whether you would want the piece at its normal price, and if the answer is no, the sale price has not changed anything.

  • VINTAGE T-SHIRT

    VINTAGE T-SHIRT · GALXBOY · R 500,00

GALXBOY's best-rated tee by volume, over eight hundred ratings at a straight five. We left it off because the listing openly builds the print on another fashion house's vintage logo, and borrowed marks are the opposite of what makes local labels worth buying.

  • WORLD PEACE 2.0 T-SHIRT

    WORLD PEACE 2.0 T-SHIRT · GALXBOY · R 600,00

World Peace 2.0, oversized with a high collar and a five-star average from more than five hundred shoppers. A genuinely strong alternative if you want a bolder graphic, but it costs noticeably more than the top pick for the same cotton.

  • 8-BIT T-SHIRT

    8-BIT T-SHIRT · GALXBOY · R 600,00

The 8-bit monogram all-over print. Strong ratings, but an all-over print is a commitment and it sits at the top of the tee range.

  • GXB THONG SANDAL

    GXB THONG SANDAL · GALXBOY · R 2 000,00

GALXBOY's canvas thong sandal is the most expensive piece of clothing here by some way, and the listing gives you the fabric, the hardware and a note to size up. Not enough for that money.

  • Black Mamba Jacket - Black

    Black Mamba Jacket - Black · S.P.C.C Official Store · R 1 799,95

S.P.C.C's wax-coated black denim trucker is the most interesting single garment on this shelf, with the longest spec list. Only fourteen ratings so far, and it costs about four times the top pick.

  • Onyx Jeans - Black

    Onyx Jeans - Black · S.P.C.C Official Store · R 699,00

Super skinny black stretch denim with a lot of hardware detail. Solid rating from a small crowd, but super skinny is a narrow fit to buy unseen.

  • Moon Crossbody - Recycled Canvas

    Moon Crossbody - Recycled Canvas · Sealandgear.co.za · R 570,00

Sealand's Moon belt bag in recycled canvas undercuts the Zeplin by a fair margin and does much the same job. One rating, so there is nothing to lean on yet.

  • Men's Thermo Tide Fleece

    Men's Thermo Tide Fleece · Sealandgear.co.za · R 2 595,00

A recycled fleece handmade in Cape Town, the priciest apparel here. The material story is the clearest of any listing on this page, but a single rating is too thin to recommend on.
